Washougal summer event will move to be called Pirates in the Park

first_imgAfter three years of commandeering Reflection Plaza, pirates will take their yearly summer celebration in Washougal closer to the high seas in August.Pirates in the Park — formerly known as Pirates in the Plaza — will take place a new location in its fourth year. The event will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 on Cottonwood Beach at Captain William Clark Park, 3333 Index St.“We decided to change things with a new location,” AJ Bogue, Washougal Business Association president, said in a release from the organization. “We love the idea of a natural park setting with the beautiful Columbia River close by. It is the perfect spot to host pirate fun.”The event asks for a $5 donation to enter, which goes to the Washougal Business Association.Pirates in the Park will feature live music, performances by Bilge Rats & Pyrettes and Circus Luminescence, dog agility activities, games, a beer garden, food vendors and a pirate costume contest.Food and craft vendors will be open when the event starts, along with games, coloring and painting for kids. Leashed pets are welcome, and pet activities finish at 4 p.m. The beer garden opens at 2 p.m., featuring local breweries, and it will be open until the event is over. Food vendors include Washougal restaurants Alex Smokehouse, Smeads Pub and Peggy’s Place.“The WBA is working to ‘put Washougal first’ and provide our local businesses the opportunity to serve customers at events such as this,” Bogue said in the release.last_img
