How To Keep Your Facebook Profile Private Yet Usable

Ross, the communications director at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies. “Every time you turn around, Facebook is changing the settings, altering default permissions and doing all sorts of things to keep you on your toes – just look at how they switched the default email address on you this week! The best defense here is to keep on top of your privacy settings.”Start With the BasicsAaron Messing, a privacy attorney with OlenderFeldman LLP in Union, N.J., offers a checklist for clients who want to use Facebook but keep their information as private as possible. Among his recommendations:Limit your default account visibility to “Only Friends” (you can always change the privacy settings on any particular picture, status or update to be more public).Make sure you know who a person making a friend request is before accepting it.Disable options that you don’t use. Hide your birth year. Use the “preview my profile option” to see how your information appears to your Facebook friends. If you are uncomfortable sharing personal information equally with all your Facebook friends, consider creating a category of limited friends who can see less of your information. Or, start by offering everyone limited access, and grant full access to only trusted, real-life friends. “Keep in mind that your friends will be able to access your information, including pictures,” Messing said. “Think before you post – would you want this information available to everyone, forever?”Ads, Apps and WebsitesThis category may be the one that trips up the most number of users. Many Facebook denizens think they’re in the clear because they have changed their privacy settings to “Only Friends” without realizing there is a separate section for setting for how advertisements, apps and Websites use your information.“As with everything, allowing an app to access your information has pros and cons,” said Allison Gerlach, manager of public relations and social media at inSegment. “There have been plenty of cases where people have come across their data being used in ways that they are not comfortable with, only to discover that it was because an app was able to access their information.” The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos Until recently, most apps were all-or-nothing: You either accepted all of the conditions when installing the app or you chose not to use that. Facebook has recently started changing those policies, allowing users to make choices about what information their apps can and cannot access and how they use it.Still, older apps may still have access to your information. Several of the experts we spoke to recommended logging into the Apps & Games section of your account and disabling all apps that are listed as having last been used more than a month ago.Is Too Much Privacy Too Much of a Good Thing?Don’t forget the whole reason we’re on Facebook: to connect with other people. Putting too many restrictions on your profile defeats the purpose. Facebook is increasingly replacing the telephone directory and has been a godsend for people planning high school reunions. Ben Gossels, a consultant for SystemExperts, is a hardcore Facebook user: The site is always open as a tab in his browser, right next to his email program. Generally speaking, he wants people to be able to find him and connect with him, so he keeps his personal privacy settings looser than some of the other people we spoke with.So far, Gossels said, it hasn’t been a problem. But there is one setting that even he recommends users adopt.“I do not allow search engines to find” my Facebook profile, Gossels said. “Since only my Facebook friends can see my profile anyway, and since I’m searchable within Facebook, I can’t think of anyone who has a legitimate reason to look for my profile that would need to do it via Google.” A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Auditlast_img read more

The Key To Crowdsourcing? Smarter Crowds

first_imgTop Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Tags:#crowdsourcing#web 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Related Posts Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic…center_img For nearly a decade, we’ve been hearing about the power of the crowd and the ability of social networks to unleash their power in everything from building an encyclopedia to helping people predict the ebbs and flows of equities markets.Crowds are a great resource and a trove of valuable information – when they work. When they don’t, it doesn’t take much to question the wisdom of the crowd. In Sunday’s New York Times, David Leonhardt gave a primer on crowdsourcing, complete with the failure of crowds to predict the Supreme Court’s recent health care decision. That decision gave critics of crowdsourcing fodder for attacking the model, but Leonhardt was quick to point out that the so-called experts and insiders are often just as flawed in their own predictions.“The answer, I think, is to take the best of what both experts and markets have to offer, realizing that the combination of the two offers a better window onto the future than either alone,” he wrote. “Markets are at their best when they can synthesize large amounts of disparate information, as on an election night. Experts are most useful when a system exists to identify the most truly knowledgeable — a system that often resembles a market.”Put another way, when everyone has access to the same information and is trying to make sense of it, crowds can be useful. But when only a few insiders have the information – an as-yet unannounced Supreme Court ruling, for example – crowds are all but useless.“Crowdsourcing is a model, not magic – no different than outsourcing or SaaS. And similar to these other models, there are companies that do it exceedingly well, and those that do it poorly,” said Matt Johnson, who heads marketing at Boston-based uTest, a crowdsourced software testing firm. “And similar to most movements that gain traction, there’s more than a little hope-hype-hate cyclicality that goes with it.”Not All Crowds Are Created EqualThe original model for crowdsourcing – and one still employed by many firms – was more is more. The idea was that the bigger the crowd you used, the better the end result, be it a prediction, a product or a logo design.Peter H. LaMotte, president of GeniusRocket Inc., said the firm was originally founded to compete in the spec space for design, in which firms compete on spec to design logos, branding campaigns or, in the case of GeniusRocket, video production. The problem with contests is that creative talent only gets paid if their content is selected, while commissioning firms have less input over the final product and may lose control over their brand to contest losers who try to use the content elsewhere. GeniusRocket shifted its business model to what it calls a “curated crowdsourcing” approach, which starts with curating who can be a part of the crowd that pitches ideas.“This makes sure that professionals, not amateurs or students, make up the crowd,” LaMotte said. “These professionals pitch ideas based upon a client’s brief. The best ideas move forward and are compensated; the ideas that are not selected remain the property of the team that pitched it… . This is the crowdsourcing element: The crowd delivers the best ideas. GeniusRocket turns them into storyboards, and uses crowdsourcing to validate the ideas like a virtual focus group. We then have a second crowd of production companies that will bid for the work. The best-suited team at the right price wins the production.” dave copeland A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai…last_img read more

Kayak and Palo Alto Networks Put Technology IPOs Back on Track

Kayak Software and Palo Alto Networks were able to price their shares above proposed ranges and enjoy healthy bumps in share prices in their market debuts on Friday. As of early afternoon Eastern Time Friday, Palo Alto shares (PANW) rose more than 34% to $56.39 and Kayak (KYAK) climbed 30% to $33.8928, according to Bloomberg. The performance indicates that investors are continuing to look favorably on the tech industry after the IPO of ServiceNow in June. That software maker’s stock rose 37% on its first day. Wall Street Worries Put to RestWall Street worried that investors would be overly cautious with tech IPOs because of Facebook’s tainted public offering. Allegations that large investors got more information from the lead underwriters than smaller investors sparked lawsuits and drew the attention of federal securities investigators. Facebook stock has yet to recover, having lost almost a quarter of its value since the IPO in May.Palo Alto and Kayak are very different businesses. Palo Alto is in the hot security market, selling firewalls that protect corporate networks against Internet-carried malware. Kayak is an aggregation site for booking airlines and hotels in the highly competitive online travel business. Kayak had delayed its IPO following Facebook’s troubles. Morgan Stanley, the investment bank that led the social network’s debut, led the IPOs for Kayak and Palo Alto. The Differences in CompaniesBeyond having the same lead underwriter, the performance of the three companies heading into the IPOs was quite different. In filings with the Securities Exchange Commission, Facebook showed slowing revenue and acknowledged it hadn’t figured out how to build a strong advertising business on mobile devices. And its IPO was massive, valuing the company in the neighborhood of $100 billion.Kayak and Palo Alto are much smaller bets with clearer prospects.Kayak revenue was up 39% year-to-year for the first quarter that ended in March, while Palo Alto’s revenue more than doubled in the nine months ending April 30, according to The Wall Street Journal. Kayak has been profitable on a full-year basis for several years, while Palo Alto has yet to be profitable for a full fiscal year.Investors Willing to Take RisksBoth companies face stiff competition, though. Kayak is up against Google, which owns the airfare engine software Kayak uses. And it is also battling smaller upstarts like Hipmunk. Google acquired the software last year in the purchase of ITA Software. Palo Alto competes against larger players including Cisco and Juniper Networks.Nevertheless, investors seem willing to take the risk, which means confidence in the tech sector is building once again. That could lead to more tech IPOs in the months to come.last_img read more

5 Ways Digital World Advancements Improve Productivity

first_imgTags:#digital advancements#effeciency and productivity Joe Martin is currently the GM and VP of Marketing at CloudApp, a visual collaboration tool. He has more than 13 years of experience of marketing in the tech industry. Prior to his role at CloudApp, Martin was the Head of Social Analytics at Adobe where he led paid social strategy and a research team providing strategic guidance to organizations within the company. He has an M.B.A. from the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business, Executive education in Entrepreneurship from Stanford Graduate School of Business, a B.S. in Finance from the University of Utah and a digital marketing certificate from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been published in the Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, NY Times, and other top tier outlets. Productivity is an essential trait that can drastically impact the landscape of business for the better. The more qualitative work we can put out within a reasonable time frame, the more opportunity there is for new projects. New projects bring advancements, growth, and so much more. Here are five ways the digital world advancements improve productivity.“Improved productivity means less human sweat, not more” – Henry FordProductivity is a trait that lies within human beings that can be developed over time. When we think about productivity, it’s reasonable to assume a majority of us think about the people doing the work rather than the means being utilized to complete the work. While it is ultimately up to us to productively complete tasks, the way we do so does contribute highly. How work in a digital world is molding productivity.Working in a digital sphere is grounds for distractions. Everything and anything can be found at the click of the button. Often, people find themselves going down funnels. What initially is meant to be a quick scan of Twitter to see relevant conversations turns into a deep dive into influencer drama. It’s human nature to explore beyond the scope which we are given — ergo, a majority of us have found ourselves in this boat.Often, a lack of productivity stems from a lack of sufficient and usable resources that can simplify the task at hand. While we may credit it to the endless surplus of quizzes Buzzfeed has to offer, low levels of productivity can be attributed to the redundancy in which we complete tasks. For example, you may have a task that needs to be given to a team member; it may be quite simplistic in the eyes of said member. However, the delivery of the job may over-complicate the matter. Trying to deliver your product can lead to back-and-forth emails and although the task may be understood and eventually completed. The steady workflow was thus interrupted by a wave of unintentional miscommunications. And on it goes.A steady workflow is essential when it comes to overall productivity. The easier it is to delegate and consume the premise of tasks, the quicker the turnaround time. Time, however, isn’t the only factor that benefits from a steady flow. When individuals can fully understand the task at hand, the more precise and qualitative the end result is. A more detailed and informative explanation — without a doubt — leads to a higher quality of work.Project management tools integrated within productivity software can be implemented to help better the process of relaying information. The flow of knowledge and intelligence from one end to another improves the overall flow of work.‍How can digital software and tools better improve overall productivity? There is no doubt that the world is moving a tan, incredibly fast place. Demands are higher, though more work needs to be done to adhere to these demands. Over time, many companies, including CloudApp, have – and continue to – work to simplify the delegation of tasks to improve the overall workflow within businesses. While we cannot control the individual productivity level of every person we encounter, we can help increase efficiency. Digital tools are the vehicle aimed at doing just that. Back to the initial question – just how can these digital means improve productivity?Speedup without stumbling.Having to explain something over and over to someone to no avail can be frustrating. The person on the receiving end isn’t to blame most of the time. However, it comes down to how we are delivering the message to them.Have you ever known EXACTLY how to do something but had trouble putting it in words? Don’t worry; you aren’t alone. A majority of us have experienced this problem at some point. Although email is still an indispensable and useful means of communication between parties, it has its pitfalls.A picture is worth a thousand words. In this case, a video is worth a million words. Video recording software makes it easy to thoroughly explain a process with visual entities attached. How does this work?Webcam recording software – some things are better-said face-to-face (or in this case, screen to screen). When the endless string of emails piles up, the frustration goes way up. Webcam recording allows users to record themselves, which can be utilized for explaining concepts. Further, new tasks can easily be explained, providing new and vital information. Fast and easy answers to frequently asked questions to become a snap. These options can be pre-recorded and sent at the click of a button through a simple link. The pre-recording eliminates download time. Individuals on the receiving end can benefit from the personable and thorough visual explanation given to them in a short period.Screen recording software – similar to webcam recording, this means of relaying information can easily eliminate the back and forth. Some things are better explained through visuals. According to TeachThought, the switch to visual learning is more and more prevalent in today’s culture, and adaptation to this is essential for expanding the skills of our current and future generations. The switch is also evident throughout social media – with visual content dominating. Screen recording allows you to explain tasks, projects, etc., visually. Recordings also allow for receiving users to refer back, pause, and rewind when necessary.Code Review Tools – whether you are an experienced developer or new to the world of code, you know that one small variable can throw the balance off everything. Trying to figure out just which variable in which line of code is causing an error can be time-consuming and tricky.Code review through screens, GIFs, or annotated screenshots can vastly improve the QA process. These code review can catch errors that may have been missed. Not only can this enhance the steadiness of workflow, but it eliminates severe issues or crashes caused by buggy or misplaced code. These means of communication work to eliminate the time spent explaining a process or task. The value-add here is productivity so more time can be spent working on prescribed tasks.Turning impersonal communication personal.Working digitally, especially those who work remote, understand the difficulty in making meaningful connections through a screen. Most of us have good intentions and want to help people further, yet the inability to authenticate your thoughts can run sour if interpreted differently.Video and recording go beyond being a functional means of improving workflow. Recordings also work as a communication software, aiding in the progression of personable interactions. How does this process help with productivity? Building and establishing connection stakes time, primarily via digital outlets. Imagine exchanging emails back-and-forth with someone you may not know or perhaps a remote worker you recently hired.Although you believe the intentions are good, it takes a significant amount of time to remove that “weary” barrier. A more personable means of delivering your message to another person can speed up the quantitative and qualitative process. A personable connection moves to the next steps, along at a precise and faster pace.Goodbye hour-long meetings.Incorporating video and visuals into your workflow can immediately remove the need for long meetings. Rather than scheduling a 30-60 min meeting — record a video explaining your side of a situation. With this process, you provide information that leads to finely-tuned collaboration. A video can also determine if a meeting is even needed at all.I HATE writing long emails. I would much rather send a quick note in Slack or record a video explaining it visually to someone.Capture what’s relevant, hold the fluff.Fluff – if you are a writer or work within the marketing world, you know exactly what fluff is. If you are unfamiliar, fluff is essentially filler content used to make something sound more complicated or perhaps more impressive than it is.A lot of people use “fluff” to further impose their knowledge on a topic at hand. While it’s great to have a dictionary of knowledge at your disposal, it may be doing more harm than good. There is merit behind the phrase; less is more.Don’t overcomplicate ideas.Overcomplicating ideas, concepts, and instructions can cause confusion and the need for reiteration. With a concise and straightforward video, you can show exactly what NEEDS to be shown and cut out all the extra embellishments that aren’t necessary to the task at hand. For example, if you are giving your team a step-by-step tutorial on how to publish a blog post, there is no need for lengthy explanations that are grounds for confusion. A simple video capturing only the relative steps they need to follow may be less. Still, the value is substantial; you’d be shocked at how making something simpler can lead to an increase in productivity and quality.Breakthrough language barriers.Another premise of working in a digital world is the ability to make connections across the globe with people of different backgrounds. A diverse set of global characteristics is a beautiful experience and an excellent opportunity to learn from those with different stories. However, this can also prove challenging. While translation tools exist that can help us interpret what those who speak different languages are trying to communicate, they aren’t always 100% accurate, and the constant copy-and-pasting can be tedious.Visual representations via video capture and a screen recorder can help break down that barrier. It’s no wonder why visual learning is thriving in the modern-day century! Some proponents of the digital-verse can impose ramifications on our productivity. However, many others are focused on the exact opposite. Sometimes, the best way to improve productivity is merely finding a faster, yet, natural means of completing what will be accomplished. Why the Gig Economy is Coming for Architects, Engineers

first_imgRamzi Jreidini It’s official: The gig economy is coming to construction. While other industries have been quick to adapt to freelance employment, architects and engineers within the construction sector have lagged behind — and that is beginning to change. Here’s why the gig economy is coming for architects and engineers. The majority of all workers will be freelance within the next ten years. The construction industry is set to shift with the rise and rise of the gig economy. This emerging style of employment opens up new talent pools and international workforces into construction for the first time. This type of gig economy will be serving an industry that desperately needs new workers on the ground. The project to project nature of the gig economy marries perfectly with that of engineering and architecture.Hiring in this way creates for leaner operations, allowing companies to save money. Companies can bid on more projects. Freelancing has already cleared the hurdles in tech — let’s unpack why now is the time for freelancing to reshape architecture and engineering. Why globalization works. The truth is that the gig economy works to solve a significant industry issue: worker scarcity. As noted by the World Economic Forum, the ongoing shortage of labor includes a shortage of talent for designers, architects, and higher levels of management. The labor shortage has an “undermined project management and execution, adversely affecting cost, timelines, and quality.”Ultimately, time is money — and the lack of available, skilled workers and professionals are one of the biggest drivers of rising construction costs. Some cost of labor reports estimates the costs have increases of  >30 percent annually. This problem is further exacerbated by the current lack of globalization in architecture and engineering – two fields with workforces that largely transcend borders. While western engineering codes developed gradually over the last century, developing nations adopted those codes and often used them as a basis for developing their own. This bias resulted in nearly identical codes and standards in those countries. For example, Saudi Arabia’s Highway Design Manual is almost an identical copy of the American rulebook, making for cities built on the American city model.States like the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also adopted a mix of American and British codes for various engineering disciplines, from structural engineering to mechanical and electrical design. In Lebanon, meanwhile, French engineering standards were used as the basis for the building codes as a remnant of colonization. Projects in many developing countries were based entirely on western engineering standards. The standard was set that suited the government or the client, either due to the lack of a government-enforced standard or due to the inadequacies and shortcomings of local ones.Copying codes results in worldwide standards, which translates into engineers and architects with skills that are more or less interchangeable. This is where freelancing makes sense in the sector. The right connection is being formed between workers and clients acting to globalize an industry that’s in desperate need of labor. Why project work invites freelancers.Architecture and engineering may appear like jobs better suited to workers who stay within the confines of one company or one country. The very nature of construction projects means they have a start and end dates. Construction has to start with conception, move onto the design, then construct and complete. There are designs to be done, and these designs are simply an aggregation of tasks by different engineers and architects on the project team. The project is then further broken down into specific roles: the architect, structural engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, geotechnical engineer, the draftsman, and more.Set tasks and set deadlines mean that engineering and architecture align with the framework of the gig economy. The concept of the gig economy is based on hiring for specific jobs, but over the preceding decades, it has been dominated by the tech space. Engineering and architecture naturally lagged behind because they were not related to anything that had to do with the information age.But this has slowly been changing with engineering and architecture becoming more commonly sought after on freelancing platforms. If trends continue, it is only a matter of time before the global industry is connected and working together on construction projects.Even before the rise of the gig economy, companies in this industry had been outsourcing tasks and design jobs overseas or locally to other firms. Online platforms streamline this process and unlock global workers.A win for workers, a win for companies. There are plenty of macro and micro trends which impact upon whether companies are building at any given time. This means that flexible companies with an on-demand workforce are better placed to match the workflow of any given moment. In busy periods, the company may be shorthanded and require additional employees to complete work on time, while leaner times means additional staff drain on company resources. The company resources are where hiring from project to project makes complete sense for the company and the worker. The gig economy in construction means the removal of talent-management overheads, saving on recruitment costs and time, and human resources processes.Workers have the freedom to pick and choose the jobs they want, and companies have the same benefit. Further, many companies avoid taking new projects due to shorthandedness. This is something online platforms and an extensive network of freelancers work to resolve, whereby the company’s human resources expands and contracts as needed.Fluidity and flexibility is the aim of the game. The gig economy helps to create architecture and engineering companies which are – for the first time – free to pick and choose the jobs they do and the workers they hire.Hiring in this way is integral when workers and skills are at a premium. Taking the employment process online is necessary for both the workers and the companies, modernizing an element of both sectors which needs change. Ramzi Jreidini is the CEO of Handiss, the freelancing platform made solely for the architecture and engineering industry where clients connect with top experts. Bhutan coal trucks caught in Meghalaya muddle

first_imgBangladesh-bound coal trucks from Bhutan have been caught in the confusion following the Supreme Court’s January 15 order banning the transportation of extracted coal in Meghalaya.Customs officials at Dawki in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district have allegedly prevented 28 coal-laden trucks from Bhutan from crossing over into Bangladesh. The trucks have been stranded there since Wednesday.Bhutan exports coal to Bangladesh via India as per the South Asian Preferential Trade Arrangement, an inter-governmental groups formed by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, or SAARC.The 28 Bhutanese trucks had been cleared by customs officials for travel through India at Darranga in Assam’s Baksa district. Darranga adjoins Samdrup Jongkhar town in Bhutan. The Darranga-Dawki trip entailed travelling 265 km via Guwahati on highways in Assam and Meghalaya. The Bhutanese trucks reached Dawki on Wednesday, hours after the apex court banned the transportation of coal extracted from the illegal rat-hole mines of Meghalaya.“The officials at the Dawki ICP (integrated check post) said they have ordered not to let any coal truck pass and that the order does not mention whether the coal is from Meghalaya or Bhutan. I tried to convince them in vain that the Supreme Court’s order does not apply to third country exports with transit through India,” Dolly Khonglah, secretary of Meghalaya International Exporters’ Chamber of Commerce, told The Hindu on Thursday.“Each coal truck is sealed, covered by tarpaulin and adheres strictly to the specified weight. Nevertheless, the customs have no right to stop them and can at best check the papers,” she said.Customs officials in Shillong declined to speak while Tining Dkhar, Meghalaya’s Commissioner and Secretary for Mining and Geology, said he has taken up the matter with the authorities concerned. “There is no instruction to stop trucks from Bhutan,” he said.An official of the Bhutanese Consulate in Guwahati said a “confusion” arising out of the ban on coal mined in Meghalaya could have led to the Bhutan trucks being stranded. “We are taking up the matter,” he said.Coal from Bhutan was being exported to Bangladesh from the Meghalaya border since November 2018.‘Freshly-mined coal’The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had banned rat-hole mining in Meghalaya on April 17, 2014 but had allowed transportation of coal that had been extracted till that day. After the ban, extracted coal assessed by government agencies was 2,325,663.54 metric tonnes against the 2,414,878.63 MT declared by the coal miners and traders. The NGT set a timeframe for transporting the coal but kept extending the deadline, acting on pleas from the miners. A three-member committee set up by NGT had in December last year concluded that illegal coal mining was still going on, especially in East Jaintia Hills district.“It seems that there is an attempt to show the freshly-mined coal… as the coal left out from the assessment and remained un-inventorised though mined prior to the said ban. The committee also apprehends that such freshly mined coal may be transported,” the report said.During their field trips, members of the committee saw freshly-extracted coal, temporary tents where labourers were living and machinery including a freshly greased crane.Apart from the NGT report, the Supreme Court went through a report by a Citizen’s Forum that accused the Meghalaya government of “actively colluding in helping miners” to extract coal by blatantly flouting the NGT ban.last_img read more

first_imgRahul Dravid produced a monumental 191 as India tightened the noose around New Zealand by taking a huge 373-run lead on the third day of the third and final Test at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Monday. After declaring their first innings a mammoth 566 for eight declared built largely around Dravid’s marathon knock and captain Mahendra SIngh Dhoni’s 98, the Indian bowlers went flat out in the final hour as the visitors reached 24 for one when stumps were drawn.SCORECARDHarbhajan Singh trapped opener Tim McIntosh (8) leg before, leaving New Zealand with a huge task of scoring 350 runs to avoid innings defeat. With two days left, Indian bowlers have enough time at their disposal to get the remaining nine New Zealand wickets and clinch the series 1-0.Having scored his 31st Test century, Dravid was unlucky to miss out on his fifth career double hundred as he mistimed a lofted shot off Kane Williamson’s bowling to be holed out in the deep by Martin Guptill. He played 396 deliveries hitting 21 boundaries in the process. If Dravid’s batting was about accumulation of runs, Dhoni’s innings of 98, for the better part, was all about flair and adventurous strokes. After reaching the 90s, the Indian captain was seen hobbling and seemed to have injured his right foot.In his bid to complete his fifth Test century quickly, Dhoni offered the simplest of return catches to his opposite number Daniel Vettori.Dhoni’s 98 came off 156 balls and with the help of 12 boundaries and a six.Meanwhile, Dravid, who have had an indifferent time with the bat before the start of this Test series now has two centuries to show for his effort having scored the first one in the first Test at Ahmedabad.advertisementIt wasn’t one of his smoothest of efforts and was more about patience and intense concentration. Nevertheless, it was an effort that was worth its weight in gold, considering that there was a mini-slump in the morning session after Sachin Tendulkar (61), VVS Laxman (10) and Suresh Raina (3) got out in quick succession. From their overnight 292 for two, India were suddenly 328 for five, when Dhoni and Dravid came together.Along with Dhoni, the former India captain added 193 runs for the sixth wicket to consolidate India’s position in the match from where they can only look forward to one result and that is a victory. The moment Dravid tucked Daniel Vettori to square leg for a two, it was more about the release of pressure than celebration for the former India captain. It took him 256 balls and 384 minutes to complete the ton.It should be double delight for ‘The Wall’ as it came in the town where his in-laws stay, and after being elected in the managing committee of the KSCA yesterday. With inputs from PTIlast_img read more

Chelsea’s Hazard back to his best, says Guus Hiddink

first_imgChelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink said Eden Hazard was back to his best after the midfielder scored a stunning goal in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night. The Belgium international, who was named PFA Player of the Year last season, has struggled for much of the current campaign, scoring his first league goal against Bournemouth last month.Hazard is back Since that strike, Hazard has racked up four goals in his last four league games, including the sumptuous curler that secured a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on May 2 and ensured that Leicester City won their first top-flight title.”Hazard was terrific and has been growing in fitness for some weeks,” Hiddink told British media. “It’s good to see. He had to suffer a lot with injuries this year but I’m very happy he’s back.”The draw at Anfield was overshadowed for Chelsea fans by concerns over the future of the club’s 35-year-old skipper John Terry, who was missing due to a suspension and is out of contract at the end of the season.Fans held aloft banners calling for Terry to stay, and Hiddink revealed that the club had made contact with the skipper, although he did not reveal the nature of the discussions.”Let’s wait (and see) what happens,” the Dutchman added.”There was contact (between Terry and the club) but because I was focused on the game, I have not heard the results of that.”Hopefully both are wise parties.
